What is microlearning?

Microlearning offers short courses (3-5 min) online, adapted to current needs. It improves knowledge retention and reduces training costs per learner, with increased flexibility for learning on all media.

Micro-formations?

Microlearning: a short training action!

Lasting only a few minutes (generally 3 to 5 min), any training action that meets this duration can be considered as micro-learning.

Often this is characterized by digital training (mainly online or on mobile).

ATTENTION ⚠️ digital technology is not the answer to everything: as in real life: the key is diversity to develop new skills.

Sharing over a coffee, a conversation, a text message, a training session or a meeting can also be assimilated to micro-learning actions.

AND YES! Microlearning is not JUST E-Learning.

Problems and mistakes to know

The regular problem with “classical” PPTs and learning methods is the passivity of the learners. Training is often done by itself rather than by choice. Of course, it is up to the trainer or facilitator to adapt their pedagogy to break this passivity.
On the E-Learning side, the observation is clear: the digitization of content is no longer enough. It is necessary to adapt its content to the digital media of its learners in order to develop learning paths that make sense.

Attention times. A full 7-hour training day... it's a long time! Especially when you consider the arrival, the attention required, the breaks, the meal, the digestion and the activities!

Are we talking about the budget?

The cost-per-hour ratio per modality per learner is extremely variable from one modality to another. It is therefore difficult to have a precise idea of a training budget... and yet it is possible!

For example: a face-to-face training action represents an average cost per learner per hour of €70 to €100.

Whereas in micro-learning, the ratio is more in the order of Euro to Euro cents.

How is that possible?

Logically, a one-day training course on site mobilizes various and varied costs that are much greater than for a digitized training action divided into several modules of 3 to 5 minutes. The instructional design and the learning experience are beautiful and very different as well.

The key points of micro-learning

The learner must be free to consult the course whenever he wants
The duration of consultation or interaction should not exceed 5 minutes per micro-learning module
Online, on a mobile, tablet or over a coffee: micro-learning blends perfectly with other teaching methods
Think snacking: the learner must be able to snack on his training little by little without overloading his working memory.

Did you know that?

In 3 to 5 minutes we often remember more than in 1 hour of training
